Welcome to Year 1
Hello everyone and welcome to our online classroom - it's a little bit different to the classroom we are used to at school, but I hope you'll find it still contains lots of help, support and interesting learning opportunities.
At the top of the list of files below, you will see a folder labelled with this week's date. Parents, this is where you will find a timetable for the week to direct your child to tasks. Each day, there will be a Phonics, English and Maths task to complete. There will also be a selection of wider curriculum tasks - please choose when you would prefer to complete them. Each week, these subjects will rotate to ensure your child's learning diet stays as broad and varied as possible. Any files you need will also be uploaded within this folder.
Remember that you can private message on Class Dojo if you have any questions or some special work to share.
Above all, stay safe.
Meet our staff
Hello I am Mrs Piper, the Year 1 class teacher. I love teaching all lessons, but particularly enjoy Drama and any excuse to dress up. World Book Day is my favourite day in school. I love learning through fun, new activities and always aim for my lessons to capture your imagination. I can’t wait to get to know you!
Hi Year 1 I am Mrs Baxter, the Year 1 teaching assistant. My favourite lesson is Read, Write Inc (phonics) and I know you are so good with your phonics and make me happy with all your knowledge of sounds. I also love doing our Wake and Shake activity and having fun, sharing laughter and most of all - glitter!
Hi Miss Heaton here. I support small groups of children and individuals in Year 1. My favourite subject is English and I love to read stories and play phonics games. I love spending time with my family, reading gardening and upcycling old cable reels. My favourite time of the school year is Christmas! As I love the nativity and Carol services and all the extra exciting things that happen in school.
We do lots of interesting learning in Year 1. For our wider curriculum we follow cornerstones and these are the topics we cover in Year 1:
Our English lessons are taught through the 'Book as a Hook' Curriculum. Some of the books we will look at are:
