This half term we have been working hard on our independent skills now we are in the juniors!

In maths, we have been looking at place value as well as addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. In English, we have been writing non-chronological reports, character descriptions and newspaper reports about an escaped mythical creature.

During our history sessions, we have been learning about Greek soldiers and their roles when going into battle.  During geography, we have been using our map skills to look at how Ancient Greece used to be made up of different areas.

Other favourite memories this half term include our swimming sessions, creating our Methodist artwork and performing our e-safety play where we showed off our awesome moves!

This half term we have been very busy.  We looked at our local area and how we could try and persuade people to come to Leigh by looking at all the great things you can do.  We also had a visit from a local artist who helped us produce some amazing graffiti artwork.

In maths we have been working hard on our times tables as well as adding and subtracting.  Our 6-a-day has been helping us to consolidate these skills each morning.

In English we enjoyed our book about dragons and we produced some super writing including a report about how to train a dragon in case we find one in the garden shed just like George from The Egg!

We visited Chapel with Mrs Pownall which we very interesting and we had a visitor from Christian Aid to make us think about how we can love without limits in school and the world around us.

Another busy half term in year 3.  We had World Book Day when we dressed up as our favourite book character and shared our favourite book with the class.  We also had a visit from the PCSO during diversity week when we talked about how it is ok to be different.

In maths, we are still working hard on our times tables as well as learning about the 24 hour clock and digital time. We have also started to learn about fractions and our times table knowledge is really going to help us with this after Easter.

In English we have loved our book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and learning all about volcanoes and earthquakes which we told everyone about in our class assembly.  Some children brought in some real volcanic rock and we even made our own volcanoes erupt in class!

During our Design & Technology sessions, we designed and built our own earthquake proof structures that needed to be strong enough to hold a 500g weight.  We also thought about how we could strengthen and reinforce our designs, what went well and what we can improve next time.

This half term Year 3 have been working hard on our maths skills.  We have been practising our times tables and doubling and halving skills.  We have also been learning about equivalent fractions using our fraction walls.

In English, we have used the video clip ‘The Shirt Machine’ to produce some great writing including instructions on how to use the machine and a letter asking the inventor to make us our very own shirts.  Mrs Russell wants one that makes her cups of coffee all day!

In Creative Curriculum, we have been learning about predators and produced some amazing artwork and in Science we are investigating whether or not plants really need light, water and soil in order to grow. One of us also brought in information about a shark they have adopted! Wow!

We also enjoyed our French Day when we visited a French speaking country – Canada.  Using the atlases, we found different cities and located them on our maps, we tried some different food and listened to some songs by French Canadian artists.
